Speaker(s):

Simply put, you can learn how to get your media management under control at this session.

Many government websites have a media problem and it isn't just 508 compliance. Often the same file gets uploaded many times, but still can't be found when needed. Licensing fees and credits are not easy to keep up with. Managing media in Drupal can be tough, but it doesn't have to be. For larger sites, with lots of media, the Scald suite of modules offers a unique Drupal-specific solution for managing media.

The speakers for this session have built media management libraries for some of the largest government websites using Scald and can show you how easy it can be for content editors to find the exact right piece of media easily and visually, then drag and drop it into almost any type of field.

Scald changes the way we think of media, allowing a consistent experience to locate and embed an image, a tweet, a map, an iframe, a block, a video, and more. Scald handles media in a consistent manner if it is hosted in Drupal's file system or by a third party, such as YouTube, Instagram, or Facebook. Scald is extensible, so it is possible to build providers for any type of media you can imagine. Scald is user friendly, so content teams will actually enjoy using it. When properly implemented, Scald can save organizations time and money, while improving media quality and consistency.

In addition to exploring Scald, this session will compare Scald to the Media module and discuss how to determine which is the better option for a particular site. We will also touch on how to handle media in Drupal 8.

Ken Fang (CEO of Mobomo) and Ted Stein (Senior Developer for Inner File Software) have contributed Scald specific modules to Drupal.org, implemented Scald solutions on some very large government sites, organized trainings on the use of Scald, and imported hundreds of thousands of pieces of media into Scald for their clients.
