Anatomy of a Page Request

You've probably done it a thousand times and it usually takes a couple of seconds, but what actually happens when you visit a Drupal site?

Whether your intention is to build, modify or theme one, you don't need to be an engineer to understand how your content makes it from server to browser.

This session gives you a glimpse behind the curtain and explains the chain of events that are set off when you initiate a page request.

Each step in the process is described in plain language:

  • How does your request find its way from the browser to the server?
  • How does Drupal return your page as an HTML file?
  • What additional files get passed to your browser?
  • How does your browser render a page?

After all, clarity is a wonderful thing!
