Self Care for the Ambitious Technologist

littlekope0903

In any open source community, you find some of the most ambitious technologists. When a community of talented and ambitious individuals come together, we have people of diverse backgrounds making the community and the technology better and stronger. That's the beauty of open source--everyone gets excited on bettering their project. But how do we stay excited and ambitious without allowing ourselves to burn out?

Tech FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is a real phenomenon, particularly among those who are ambitious and eager to learn. But with too much focus on our ambitions, many of us often begin pouring from an empty kettle. At best, this can lead to lack of mastery in our code. At worst, it can lead to burn out and deterioration of our mental health.

In this talk, a developer who has made large strides in her career and self-identifies as a 'lovable neurotic,' will talk about her personal struggles with being ambitious. She learned to code from the ground up, and she will share how she has learned to care for herself to nurture her ambition rather than hinder it. This includes introductions to new perspectives to help with self care as well as personal tactics.
