Speaker Agreement

Speaker Agreement

The Drupal GovCon planning team has created the Drupal GovCon Speaker Agreement to outline the expected responsibilities of Drupal GovCon speakers. Please read through the items listed below, and click on 'Agree' when submitting your session.

Compensation

I understand that Drupal GovCon is a no-cost conference; but tickets are required. It is my responsibility to register in advance of arriving at Drupal GovCon.

Speaker Profiles

I will fill out my user profile on Sessionize, including full name and a photo, with the understanding that my session may not display properly if this information is not provided in time for the schedule.

Session Integrity

Sessions are selected based on a combination of content, speaker experience and description. If a session was selected, it was selected as it was submitted, and any changes to the content or speaker team need to be approved by the Program Team. Please note, the Program Team reserves the right to remove a session at their own discretion, including if dramatic changes are made to the session’s content or speaker team.

Session Preparation

I understand that speaking at Drupal GovCon is both a great honor and responsibility. If I am unable to devote the time and energy to this effort, I will notify the Drupal GovCon planning team and Drupal GovCon will replace my session.

I understand that if I am participating on a panel or lab that I am expected to communicate with the other speakers on my session before the event. I understand that if I am delivering a group or solo presentation, I am expected to spend a significant amount of time preparing for my session before the event.

To aid in schedule planning, I will also communicate any of the following with the Program Team:

  • Schedule conflicts
  • Session format (panel, Q+A, Lab, etc…)
  • Technical requirements/requests
  • Changes to your speaker lineup

Obtaining Consent

I understand that I am responsible for obtaining any required consents, permissions, and clearances to display or otherwise use any materials (both visual and audio) that I incorporate in my session.

Promoted Content

I understand that my session is for information sharing purposes only and that it is not a marketing opportunity. I agree that I will not use my session to promote any company, brand, or product.

Staying On Topic and On Time

I understand that staying focused on the topic outlined in the title and description of my session is extremely important. During my session, I pledge to stay focused on the topic at hand and make sure that the information presented adheres to the difficulty level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced) designated for my session.

Code of Conduct

I understand that my slides and on-stage remarks must abide by the Code of Conduct for this conference. I understand that my slides may be reviewed ahead of time, and that I may need to modify my presentation if it does not adhere with the Code of Conduct. I also understand that if, while I am presenting, I fail to abide by the spirit of the Code of Conduct, my session recording will not be published.

Session Recording

I have read the Media Policy and understand that my session will be recorded and made publicly available following the conference.

Session Tracks

Session Tracks

Sessions are organized by track (see below), and experience level (beginner, intermediate, advanced).

Here are some tips to maximize the potential for your session acceptance:

  • Tell a Story
A high quality speaking proposal isn’t just about what information you are going to share, it’s about how you plan to share it. Telling a story can make a conference proposal very powerful as it changes the perspective from “I’m an expert telling you how to do your job” to “I’ve been where you are and have felt your pain. Let me share what I learned.”

  • Share the Takeaways You Will Be Presenting
Often, talks answer questions that start with “how”, “why”, “when” and so on. Make sure that you demonstrate what your audience will walk away having learned.

  • Proofread your Proposal
This may sound like an easy and silly thing to call out, but it is in fact a very important step that many don't pay too much attention to. Double-check your spelling, your links, your grammar - you're presenting yourself with these words, so make sure you put your best foot forward.

Don't forget to review the Submission Guidelines.

Session Tracks

AI for Drupal Developers

The AI for Drupal Developers track focuses on demonstrating how Drupal AI works, and the uses for Drupal AI in Modules and other areas. Sessions submitted should focus on developers on the latest techniques and tools in Drupal AI. Given the technical nature of this track, we encourage presenters to "show their work", coming to the session with demonstrated use cases or quick hands on activities are great.

AI for Drupal Editors/Sitebuilders/Marketers

The audience for this track are individuals new to Drupal and interested in leveraging AI for site building, editing, and marketing. Sessions should explore the current landscape and future of content management with AI. We encourage presenters to submit sessions that showcase the cool features of Drupal AI that people can learn and work with.

Coding and Development

The Coding and Development track is focused on educating developers on the latest techniques and tools for increasing the quality and efficacy of their projects. Topics will include best practices for coding and debugging in Drupal 10^, making decisions and plans for migrating sites from earlier versions of Drupal or other systems, upgrading contrib to Drupal 10^, engagement with other frameworks and technologies, high performance and large scale development experiences, and exploring the advantages of participating in open-source culture. Come share the vast wealth of knowledge and lessons learned and collaborate with other engineers from around the world!

Community and Being Human

The Community and Being Human track is all  about the human and community aspects of the Drupal and the larger Open Source world.  Learn about how to be happy and healthy at work, how to be a productive team and community member, how the community and project support each other, how you can contribute to the community no matter your expertise, and more. This track is also for everyone wanting to hear stories about how Drupal helped make dreams come true.

Content Strategy and Analytics

This track examines the planning, development, information architecture, and management of  web content  and how we drive action  to our core audiences and diverse users. The Content Strategy and Analytics track also examines data, analytics, and other quantitative metrics that content creators and marketers use to make informed decisions about the quality and effectiveness of  their content.

Design, UX, and Accessibility

Design, Theming and User Experience (UX), and Accessibility form the foundation of all interactions on the web and require consideration beyond the web. These interactions include off-screen/non-web interactions that  diverse users may have when they interact with your company, product, service, and/or environment.

Devops, Performance, Security, and Privacy

DevOps is the convergence of technologies between application / software development and cloud / server management. The DevOps space has exploded, in recent years,  due to the need for thousands of businesses and agencies to rapidly scale up their web and software applications. This track covers everything from performance monitoring, security policy, tools and implementation, privacy/efficacy DevOps methods, and continuous integration and deployment.

Keynote

Keynote speakers are well known for their expertise in a particular field, or who have wide name recognition due to other accomplishments.  The Drupal GovCon team invites keynote speakers. If you have a speaker you would like to recommend as a keynote, please email [email protected]

Project and Team Management

Good management is an integral component of successful teams and projects. This track aims to discuss and innovate on the practices, principles, and tools that make teams and projects run better and faster. We hope this content will speak to project managers/directors, scrum masters and other “PMs”.

Site Building and Using Drupal

The “site builder” audience creates websites using the Drupal UI and contributed modules. Presentations in this category should focus on what comes “out of the box” with Drupal, and less about what can be done with custom code. The power of Drupal lies not just in the core platform, but also in powerful contributed modules that allow one to build sites quickly and efficiently. This track is designed to teach you ways to let Drupal do the hard work without needing to write code.

About the Event

About the Event

Drupal GovCon is the highly anticipated annual conference organized by Drupal4Gov for the DC/MD/VA Drupal community and wider Drupal government community. We bring together people from all over the country who use, develop, design, and support the Drupal platform with a focus on government. We come together every year to learn, improve, and innovate as a community. The conference offers a unique platform for learning, networking, and collaboration, with a focus on empowering government agencies to leverage Drupal's capabilities effectively. Although there is a focus on government, there is also a heavy representation of attendees from the private, non-profit, and education sectors as well.

Birds of a Feather

Birds of a Feather (BoFs) at Drupal GovCon are informal, attendee-driven discussions centered around shared interests or challenges. No slides — just community, experience, and practical insight.

Social Events

Drupal GovCon isn’t just about the talks — it’s about the people. Our social events are designed to help you connect beyond the conference rooms. Whether you're a first-time attendee, long-time contributor, sponsor, or speaker, there’s space for you to build relationships, swap stories, and strengthen the community that makes Drupal thrive.

A Message from Our Board

Whoever thought that an idea brainstormed under an escalator at DrupalCon Chicago 2011 would become the 3rd largest annual Drupal conference globally, 2nd largest Drupal conference in North America, and THE largest Government focused Drupal camp in the world?! We certainly didn’t! Over a decade later, and we’re still shocked at how far we’ve come and the trials and tribulations we’ve endured. We’re looking at you COVID!

So here we are for our 14th in person Drupal GovCon. We’ve changed a bit over the years with a new look, location, and leadership but our mission remains the same: we connect and serve all levels of government employees committed to open source technology by providing educational opportunities that intersect nonprofits, educational organizations, labor unions, Drupal shops, and contracting agencies together in a supportive and inclusive environment. We value creating a community that fosters collaboration and shared knowledge around open-source technology.

We’re able to do this because of continued support from sponsors like you. Even if you weren’t with us in Chicago, you’ve still helped us escalate (pun 100% intended) Drupal GovCon to an event with over 1,000 attendees. So thank you for joining us for the first time—or your 14th time!—in sponsoring another Drupal GovCon!
